LAPTOP SHUTTING DOWN DUE TO OVERHEATING?

TRY THESE COOL DOWN TIPS THAT WON'T COST YOU A DIME

You’re worried because your laptop keeps shutting itself down and off every 10-30 minutes.

You feel the keyboard and the back and it feels very hot. It’s overheating.  What do you do?

You keep restarting, but it barely stays on long enough for you to Google a decent resolution.

Don’t freak out just yet; don’t go running so quickly to the technician.

Instead try these quick, simple, cool down tips that will instantly cool your laptop down and put you back in business.

Remove the battery
If your laptop is at home or always plugged in on the charger at the office or wherever, you won’t necessarily require the use of a battery. Plus, the charger works overtime, constantly charging the battery which will cause it to produce a lot of unnecessary heat.

Choose one or the other, plug out the charger from the laptop or remove the battery while using the laptop on the charger.  This is an instant cool down for your laptop.  You will also increase the longevity of your battery.

Be sure after removing the battery, to store it in a cool dry place.

Elevate the laptop
Most laptops have their cooling fan on the left under side closest to the monitor. This fan is prone to attracting a lot of dirt, smoke, dust and things like that.

If the laptop is usually in one place and hardly moved it won’t have much space for air to pass through and that will cause a lot of hot recycled air to circulate throughout the computer.

Prop the laptop on a wide hard cover text book shifting a space out for the fan, so that enough fresh, cool air will pass through for the fan to cool it.

Power Options
Change the power options on your battery and charger.

Right click on your battery icon in the bottom right tray on your screen > click on Power Options > whichever power plan you’re on click “Change Plan Settings” > then click “Change Advanced Power settings” >
From the drop down box that says “Maximum Processor State” reduce your “on Battery” or “On Plugged In” to about 99% to 97% depending on amount of usage.

Download a CPU temperature monitor like CPUID or REAL TEMP to keep tabs on your battery and CPU temperature.
If you already had a temp monitor you will notice that the degrees will go down drastically depending on how much percentage you went down from a hundred.

For performance purposes I wouldn't go down more than 3%.

Tabletop fan
This might be your only purchase and may not even be necessary if you already have a regular fan that can be placed in a convenient location that will be able to blow cool air from the side of the laptop where the cooling fan is located.

If you have the laptop propped on an elevated surface this is perfect for the cooling fan to take in the flow of cool, steady pressure of air from the table top or ordinary fan, which will circulate throughout the laptop instantly delivering a cooling route to its mechanisms.

I personally have had major problems with my laptop shutting itself down and not restarting. Lost a lot of work because of it too.

I was amazed at how these simple changes to my usage made a difference to the temperature and my laptops overall performance.

I hope if you have similar problems you will find this article useful.

In the case that you have tried all these methods and you still have issues with your computer shutting itself off, don’t hesitate to have a professional take a closer look at it.

Your copy of Windows may not be genuine and you may be using an Evaluation version. Apart from that you might be experiencing issues with your motherboard which will require more thorough servicing.

Whatever the cost, it’s not worth losing your entire information over something that may have caused just a couple of bucks to be looked after professionally.
